The Main cycle path runs right past Veitshöchheim. The actual cycle path lies on the opposite bank of the Main and is easily reached via a new bike and pedestrian footbridge, about 500 metres from the hotel.
Towards Würzburg (upstream)
The shortest leg heads upstream straight to Würzburg — past green meadows, with views of Main river traffic and Festung Marienberg. Once in the old town, it's worth a detour: a "Brückenschoppen" (a glass of wine) on the Alte Mainbrücke with a view of the fortress, a stroll through the old town for some shopping, an ice cream, or a stop at one of the traditional restaurants before heading back to Veitshöchheim.
Towards Erlabrunn, Zellingen & Himmelstadt (downstream)
Downstream, the route first passes Erlabrunn. Continuing on, you reach Zellingen and Himmelstadt with their popular beer gardens right on the river. Karlstadt, a pretty little town around 20 km further downstream, is also easily reachable by bike from here.
A nice tip for the way back: in Zellingen, switch to the other bank of the Main and cycle back to Veitshöchheim via Thüngersheim — turning the tour into a varied loop with views from both sides of the river.
Handy for cyclists

- Flat route, also well suited for less experienced cyclists
- Good train connections for the return trip, including from Würzburg or Thüngersheim
